Bally and Golden Nugget Partner up to Deal Online Poker in Downtown Vegas

Now that Las Vegas-based Bally Technologies has received the first ever license for legalized interactive gaming in that Nevada, the suitors have come calling. Companies anxious to cash in on the new-found ability to legally offer an online poker entity in The Silver State now simply need to reach an agreement with Bally rather than apply for and receive their own license. Such a successful partnership was recently reached between Bally Technologies and Landry Gaming’s Golden Nugget property located in downtown Las Vegas. That agreement is to offer an online poker product after the first initial testing process is okayed by licensed Nevada gaming labs.

Richard Haddrill is the CEO of Bally Technologies, and he said that the new online poker partnership could be up and running by early 2013, and even possibly by the holiday season this year. In what is probably an understatement in the very least, Haddrill also said that his company is negotiating with other prospective customers to offer online poker in Nevada. On that front, Tilman Fertitta’s Golden Nugget Inc. and Landry’s Inc. recently announced that they had launched a “free play” online poker room named GoldenNuggetPoker.com, in a move that obviously is intended to attract customers on the free play level, and then slowly transition those to poker play for money in the future.

Too much of a coincidence? Well, take a wild guess as to the identity of who will be providing the GoldenNuggetPoker.com site with their poker software. That’s right, Bally Technologies has agreed to offer there iGaming poker platform that is already currently in use overseas. So it appears that Bally and the Golden Nugget had wisely been discussing partnerships on multiple levels well in advance of Bally actually receiving the first interactive gaming license in Nevada. Kudos to both companies.

When Bally received the first interactive gaming license in Nevada, they also became the first company in the entire United States to possess the legal ability to offer some type of online gaming since the United States Department of Justice gave each individual state the ability to regulate their own online gaming presence. That happened on December 23 of last year, after the DOJ flip-flopped an age-old position regarding any type of online gaming for money as illegal in the United States. International Game Technology, a slot machine manufacturing giant based in Reno, got the second ever license less than an hour after Bally.

In related online poker news, Delaware officially became the second state to offer legalized online poker play last week, and the first state ever to allow comprehensive casino gambling online. Delaware Governor Jack Markell signed the legislation into existence after it passed Senate approval by a vote of 14 to 6, and it allows for online Keno, Slots, Blackjack, Poker and other typical casino games, as well as betting on NFL football games. As is the case in Nevada, a virtual infrastructure needs to be built, websites need to be produced and tested by state legislators, and actual online casino gaming in Delaware looks to be possible in early 2013.
